"Hahahaha!" At this point, I didn't know who was even laughing anymore, my enemy or me.

With crashes and clangs of metal and flesh, the night was aroar with bright sounds. My foe was not human, youkai, not even automation. It had the gall to pick me out of the night, to aim to end my life. My life, someone who barely was even here. It was just too funny.

Oh, I couldn't tell if I was being rent in two or my opponent was. It was just so damn funny, and all my traps were both necessary and working. One over here, because of course it'd fall for that, and with another sound of ripping flesh, I couldn't tell who'd caught who yet again. It wasn't important, the next trap was on my mind after all.

But then it started to slow down. Me? The monster? Who knows, who cares, but I could see that it was both of us. I saw it, and realized my attention was slipping in the noticing. I couldn't help that either. Oh, what an exhausting fight! But I'd surely win.

And it started happening. It began to outpace me.

Frustrated, I tried to reclaim my focus, but it got worse. I was losing, badly. It nearly had me now. It was frustrating, but I'd seen this before. As I grew ready to try to escape, I felt Defynes. It was like it said without speaking, 'I've seen this before too... but what if you had another trick up your sleeve?' Just a wild passing thought, yet I drew the small sword. "Defynes." A rent in space opened up, so I thrust my leg through the gap without much hesitation. The monster cried out. Perhaps it was the first time it had done that during our fight, because it was no longer a peer or predator.

It had become my prey.
