About a week before the events of the story

Moonlight covers the world. When it does, the night steals sight. Though no one can see in this darkness, shadows move. I am the shadow.

I ducked under the barrage of bullets. Echoing memories of days blurred over can't distract me. Whenever it's a clear night like this, eroded fragments try to say, "I'm here" but I ignore them. They feel like happy memories, but it hurts that I can't remember. Ripped and smiling faces, and when the fight is over, they're gone. I can't recall a thing before the day I woke up for the first time.

I can't remember who I was, but when I fight... I felt my anchor cleave through its skull, the phantom I was fighting. For a moment I could recall something, but it was too bright to see. Then it was gone.

I have to say, this set of I.D. equipment is really decent. Though I wasn't sure about something called Ecstasy, it's easy to resonate with. I'd better call in to my supervisor. I don't want to stick around here with nothing to do.

I'm not sure when I'll find friends again, but I'll be able to protect them this time. Maybe I had friends before I lost my memory as well. Maybe I couldn't protect them either. It's way too frustrating. Nights like this one just make me remember way too much. I'll get back to work fighting monsters, so I don't have to spend anymore time stagnating in this moonlight. I'm merely a shadow after all.
